Obligatory New Year Resolutions Post

I love the start of a new year because it’s like a blank slate. It’s a chance to try again, evaluate your life and your goals and determine what you want to do differently or better. So I’ve been thinking about my new year resolutions when it comes to writing and reading, and here they are (in no particular order):

1. Write one blog post per weekday. I’ve succeeded in doing this for 2011, so it shouldn’t be too hard to continue in 2012.
2. Rewrite all seven of the novels. It will be somewhere around 3,000 words a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.
3. Read 75 books in 2012. In 2011, I’ve read over 100, but the reason I’m lowering my goal instead of increasing it is because I’ve increased my writing goal and thus, I shall have less time for reading.

That’s a pretty hefty list of goals, and it’s a ton of writing, so my wrists are going to be practically tied to the keyboard when I’m not at work. I have a few other goals that have nothing to do with writing, and they’re more personal, so I won’t list them here.

All in all, I have very good feelings about 2012. And I don’t believe that the world will end on December 21.

So… what’s your biggest resolution for the new year? :)

  1. What is your logic for setting a goal to revise all 7 books in 2012? Wouldn’t it make more sense to concentrate on one, revise it to perfection, and then get it published before moving on to the next?

(With your hefty list of goals, don’t forget to leave some time to walk your dog).

    • Each one will take two months to rewrite, and the seventh one will be rewritten throughout the year. So at any given time, I’ll be rewriting 2 books. Strange logic, I know, but it works better for me to work on more than one thing at a time. :)

  2. Best of luck with that, sounds hectic, but full of reading and writing, so it also sounds pretty perfect! Enjoy.

  3. Great goals Maggie! Good luck with them and I hope you have a very happy New Year!

  4. My resolution is to remain awake and aware to all the possibilities inherent in THIS moment.

Enjoy the tail end of 2011 as 2012 waits in the wings ready to enter stage left. :D
